Emergency Grocery Card Drive – On Now!
During the school shutdown, implemented to slow the transmission of the coronavirus, we are holding an Emergency Grocery Card Drive to support the students who depend on school meal programs for their daily nutrition. To help, please go to the Donations page and follow the instructions there. Thank you for your support!
The Food and Essentials Program for Children — On Now!
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Student Support Network in conjunction with the Baltimore County Public Schools Office of Title I has created the Food and Essentials Program for Children, with the mission to provide food and essential items support for students at high risk of hunger and food insecurity.
Parents who cannot access any of the numerous food distribution sites throughout the county for whatever reason often face an unimaginable choice — food for their children or putting their jobs at risk by taking time off to wait in line. Some families have to choose between food and diapers, or paying the rent.
The Network wants to help ease the burden on families who simply cannot attend weekly distributions.
In addition to the $10,000 the Network had initially committed to the program (which, because of the high number of families in need, was exhausted during the first week of the program), we have applied for grant funding to increase our ability to give.
Our goal is to distribute $100,000 over four months to students and their families in dire circumstances.
How does it work?
BCPS staff has identified many students in need. Network volunteers have purchased grocery cards and delivered them to these families. Once a family has qualified, they may receive up to $25 per child for up to four months. This program is specifically for families who cannot attend weekly distribution sites.
